MARK DAVID CHAPMAN DENIED PAROLE
BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - John Lennon's killer has tried six times for parole, and he's been denied for the sixth time. Mark David Chapman was interviewed by a parole board in upstate New York yesterday. Yoko Ono has said she opposes Chapman's release because she considers him a threat. The board is expected to release a transcript of Chapman's interview in the next several days. His hearing had been postponed from last month. He's eligible for parole again in two years.
PAUL McCARTNEY WILL GET KENNEDY CENTER HONOR
WASHINGTON (AP) - Paul McCartney will be given another shot at a Kennedy Center Honor. He was supposed to get it in 2002 but backed out because of a personal obligation. He's been selected to receive it this year, along with Oprah Winfrey, Merle Haggard, Broadway composer Jerry Herman and dancer Bill T. Jones. President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama will host the recipients at the White House before attending a gala with them in their honor. It will be recorded as a CBS special that airs December 28.
PAUL McCARTNEY IS INDUCTED INTO NASHVILLE SONGWRITERS HALL OF FAME
NASHVILLE (AP) - Even though Paul McCartney has never lived in Nashville and doesn't write country music, the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame want him anyway. He was given an honorary induction into the hall. The hall's chairman, Roger Murrah, says McCartney warrants the honor because he was influenced by Nashville songwriters and he's certainly influenced them back.
BACHMAN AND TURNER CHANGE THE NAME, KEEP THE SOUND
NEW YORK (AP) - Randy Bachman and Fred Turner are enjoying the chance to start over while still sounding the same. They go by Bachman-Turner now instead of Bachman-Turner Overdrive. Bachman says they're lucky enough to have a sizable catalog of songs that people know. When they play live, though, Bachman says they'll sneak in one of their new songs without announcing it as such and even fans think it's an old one. They released a self-titled album yesterday and Bachman says their goal was to make it sound like "the lost album from 1976."
